The Wolfe Award Committee has been hard at work for several months and will soon announce the winner of the 2018 Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award! The prestigious award was originated by the Louis Lipinsky family and is now also supported by the WNC Historical Association, Michael Sartisky, PhD and the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Advisory Board. This year six finalists were chosen out of 18 nominations. The finalists encompass a broad range of genres. Submissions included novels, poetry, history, and memoirs.

The Award Panel this year consists of prior TWMLA Winner, Terry Roberts, PhD, Chair, Director of the National Paideia Center; Gordon McKinney, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Berea College & board member, WNCHA; Jim Stokely, former board member, Thomas Wolfe Memorial Advisory Committee; Gwin Jones, Past Chair WNCHA; Tom Muir, Director, Thomas Wolfe Memorial; Ellen Carr, board member, Thomas Wolfe Memorial Advisory Committee; and Mimi Fenton, PhD, Immediate Past Dean of the Graduate School, Western Carolina University and Brandon J. Johnson, Mars Hill University.

The award will be presented to the 2018 winner on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the award celebration event to be held at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel in the Top Of The Plaza Room. The event is a who’s who of the WNC literary community and provides plenty of opportunity for you to meet the writers, buy and get signed copies of the books or just mingle and socialize. The food provided by the The Renaissance is always incredible and the atmosphere is stunning.

Reservations & prepayment are required to attend the award ceremony. Reservations will begin being accepted on October 1, 2018.
